Welcome Back to School!

We had a great first 2 weeks of school! Some highlights were the Ronald McDonald Assembly and working in groups for the Marshmallow Challenge. We spent a lot of time getting to know each other, learning the expectations for our behavior in all areas of the school, and learning how we are going to run Reader's Workshop. Pictures to come!

Pi Day

Pi Day is an annual American celebration that honors the mathematical constant, pi. We celebrated it on 3/14 since 3, 1, 4 are the three most significant digits of pi, 3.14. The 5th graders helped us measure the circumference and diameter of circles to find pi,  which is approximately 3.14159. It was fun to see the kids use their math skills to see how close they could get to pi by dividing the circumference by the diameter of the circles!

Read Across America Week

The kids and teachers look forward to this week every year to celebrate reading and Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2nd. We kicked off our week of celebrating reading by having tons of fun in a photo booth set up in the Art room.

Character Counts - Ronald McDonald Assembly

Ronald McDonald came and involved us in his comic performance about how we should be responsible, trustworthy, caring, fair and respectful people.  This all goes along with our bucket filling ideas of what we can do to help ourselves, and each other, become positive individuals each and every day!

World Read Aloud Day

On Wednesday we were fortunate to have the Wellman Rotary members come to our classes and read out loud to us. Bill Kinneer came and read from our current read-aloud book, "The City of Ember."

Thursday - Reading Buddies

We continued to celebrate World Read Aloud Day today with out 1st grade friends! We enjoyed a Dr. Seussy Snack and practiced our fluency and listening skills by reading with the first graders.
