Grandparent's Day

We had a great turnout at WE for Grandparent's Day and the 4th graders really enjoyed showing their grandparent's what they have been working on and learning this year. Some of the things we shared with them were the Google election map, baseball and lattice multiplication on the ipads, MadLibs on the ipads, and their current favorite website, Abcya.com. Everyone had a wonderful day!

Veteran's Day and Cup Stacking

We had many veterans join us for our Veteran's Day Assembly and lunch, including Josh's grandpa and dad. We are thankful to our local Veterans for the sacrifices they make for us.
We aslo participated in the World Sport Stacking Association's  Guiness World Records Speed Stacking Day. The kids look forward to this day and are excited for next year when they get to spend an entire day speed stacking as fifth graders!

WE Mock Election

The 4th graders did a great job of running our school wide election yesterday and we are proud to say we had 100% participation! They checked people in, guided them to their polling station, and helped everyone read the ballot and vote for their presidential choice on the ipads. Hopefully you got a chance to view some news with them last night and watch the election totals as they were coming in from the polls! Very exciting and a great opportunity to learn how it all works!

Pizza Party and Halloween

The Fourth graders contributed the most coins to the Miles for Pennies fundraiser and enjoyed a pizza party courtesy of the Kalona Optimists. I don't think the kids expected anything for their generosity, but loved the pizza anyway!
They also did a great job planning and throwing their own Halloween party! Amidst all these parties, they are working hard on their Iowa Assessment tests. Thanks to all who have provided snacks for us!

ipads, Pam and skulls, and Crazy Day

We have had a busy couple of weeks! Pam came and taught us how to be Skull Detectives to discern what type of animal skulls were in front of us. We also have had some time to discover what fun the ipads can be.  WE was awarded a generous grant from the Riverboat Foundation last spring and the school was able to purchase 50 ipads for K-5 to use.  We are so grateful!

The kids also really enjoyed dressing up for Crazy Day!  Hopefully you got to see some of their tweeted pictures from that day!
